About Dr. Merritt

Passions

Dr Merritt is a strong advocate of available dental care for all children. He is working with a state-wide task force to address this health need of the children in Alabama. Accurate reporting to the public of dental credentials by a dentist, and informed consent by parents before a dental treatment is performed on children, are topics in which Dr. Merritt is greatly interested.

Education

Dr. David H. Merritt is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and a graduate of Shades Valley High School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Continuing his education, Dr. Merritt completed a specialty Masters Degree in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Along with his Pediatric Dental practice in Florence, Dr. Merritt is an active member of the pediatric dental professional organizations. He is the past President of the Alabama Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, has served on the editorial board for the Journal of the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and is a diplomat of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.  Dr. Merritt is an adjunct faculty member of the UAB School of Dentistry as a professor to graduate dental students who are training to become a pediatric dentist.
